Quick answer

Mind Crushers is a simple conversation starter game: draw a card, read the prompt aloud, and let the discussion flow. No scoring, no turns—just pick a card and start talking.

What makes Mind Crushers different

Mind Crushers is a deck of 200 weird, funny, controversial, and/or smart conversation starters written by two co-creators of Cards Against Humanity and a few other people you’ve never heard of. It’s designed to be ridiculously easy to play, so there’s no complicated rulebook to memorize.

The cards are big and colorful with funny faces, and the box is surprisingly thick and heavy. That means the deck feels substantial in your hands—good for repeated game nights.

Age and content considerations

Mind Crushers is intended for ages 17+ unless you remove the cards marked NSFW. The deck includes both safe-for-work and not-safe-for-work prompts, so you can tailor the experience to your group.

If you’re playing with a mixed group, take a minute to sort out the NSFW cards before you start. That way, you won’t accidentally draw something that makes someone uncomfortable.

How to set up and play Mind Crushers

  1. Gather your group: Mind Crushers works best with at least 3 people, but you can play with 2 if you’re comfortable with one-on-one conversation. There’s no maximum—the more, the merrier. Check that everyone is comfortable with the NSFW content before you start.
  2. Sort the deck (optional): If you want to keep things PG, remove the cards marked NSFW. You can also separate the 'smart' cards if your group prefers deep topics over silly ones. Sorting ahead of time prevents awkward draws later.
  3. Shuffle and place the deck: Shuffle the deck thoroughly and place it face down in the center of the table. Everyone should be able to reach it easily. A well-shuffled deck ensures a good mix of prompts.
  4. Draw a card and read it aloud: The first player draws the top card, reads the prompt aloud, and answers it themselves or opens the floor to the group. There’s no turn order—anyone can chime in. Don’t overthink it; the goal is to spark conversation, not to give a perfect answer.
  5. Keep the conversation going: After a prompt is discussed, the next player draws a new card. Continue as long as the group is engaged. There’s no winner or loser—the game ends when you’re done talking. If a card falls flat, just draw another one. No rules say you must stick with a dud.
