Quick answer

Set up the two boards 27 feet apart (front edge to front edge), grab four bean bags per player or team, and play to 21 points by landing bags on the board or in the hole.

Why the distance matters

The official BAGGO distance is 27 feet from the front edge of one board to the front edge of the other. That is 3 feet longer than standard cornhole, which changes how much arc you need on your toss. If you set up closer, the game plays faster and easier, but you lose the challenge that makes Baggo feel different from cornhole.

Scoring at a glance

A bag that lands and stays on the board scores 1 point. A bag that goes through the hole scores 3 points. Only one player or team scores per round — the player with the higher round total gets the difference added to their game score. This cancelling rule keeps comebacks possible and prevents runaway scores.

Step-by-step setup and play

  1. Place the boards: Set both boards on a flat, level surface with the front edges exactly 27 feet apart. Use the included distance regulator rope to measure quickly. A common mistake is measuring from the back edge — always measure front edge to front edge.
  2. Divide the bean bags: Each player or team gets four bags of the same color. If playing singles, both players stand at the same board and toss to the opposite board. In doubles, partners stand at opposite boards. Make sure each side has exactly four bags before starting to avoid mid-round confusion.
  3. Toss all eight bags: Players alternate tosses until all eight bags are thrown. A bag that hits the ground before the board does not score and is removed before the next throw. Do not walk to the other board until all bags are thrown — it disrupts the rhythm and can be a safety hazard.
  4. Score the round: Count bags on the board (1 point each) and bags in the hole (3 points each). Only the player with the higher round total adds the difference to their game score. If both players have the same round total, no points are awarded — this is called a wash round.
  5. Play to 21: Continue rounds until one player or team reaches exactly 21 points. If you go over 21, your score drops back to 11 or 15 depending on house rules — check your group’s preference before starting. Official BAGGO rules use a bust-back rule: going over 21 resets your score to 11, not 15.
