Quick answer
The microMAGS Travel Set Deluxe 55 Piece Set packs 55 magnetic tiles into a reusable metal tin that doubles as a building base, making it a strong choice for portable creative play. It's best for families who want a compact set for car rides, restaurants, or vacations, but less ideal if you need a large, stationary building set for elaborate structures at home.
What makes the Travel Set Deluxe different
The microMAGS tiles are 75% smaller than traditional magnetic building tiles, which makes them especially suited for small hands and tight spaces. The included metal tin not only stores the 55 pieces but also serves as a magnetic building surface, adding a stable base for creations on uneven tables or laps. This design trade-off means you get a self-contained play kit, but the smaller tile size may feel limiting if your child is used to full-size magnetic tiles.
Who should consider this set
This set is a practical pick for parents who need a quiet, mess-free activity that travels well. The 55 pieces offer enough variety for multiple builds—like towers, vehicles, or animals—without overwhelming a small bag or backpack. However, if your child prefers building large, floor-based structures or already has a substantial collection of full-size magnetic tiles, the smaller scale and 55-piece count may not satisfy that urge. The set shines in portability, not in sheer building volume.
How to decide if the Travel Set Deluxe is right for you
- Check your need for portability: If you plan to use this set mostly in the car, at restaurants, or on trips, the metal tin and 55-piece count are ideal. If the set will stay at home, consider a larger set with more pieces.
- Consider tile size preferences: microMAGS tiles are 75% smaller than standard magnetic tiles. If your child prefers the feel and scale of full-size tiles, this set may not match their expectations. If they enjoy compact, portable builds, the smaller size is an advantage.
- Evaluate the 55-piece count: 55 pieces allow for a variety of small to medium builds. For elaborate structures or group play, you may want to combine this set with other microMAGS sets. For solo or duo play on the go, the count is sufficient. If you anticipate needing more pieces for collaborative builds, look into adding another microMAGS set later.
