Quick answer
Sticky Purple Haze dice usually have residue from manufacturing or storage. A gentle wash with mild soap and water usually fixes it, but avoid harsh chemicals or scrubbing.
Why resin dice get sticky
Resin polyhedral dice like the Purple Haze set can feel tacky straight from the pack if leftover mold release or plasticizer sits on the surface. This is common with affordable resin dice and is not a defect—it's a residue that can be cleaned off.
The Purple Haze 16mm Resin Poly Dice Set includes seven dice (d4 through d20) and offers great value, but the manufacturing process may leave a slight film. Once cleaned, they roll smoothly and look vibrant.
When sticky means something else
If the dice remain sticky after cleaning, the resin may have absorbed moisture or the surface finish may be degrading. At that point, further cleaning can damage the dice, and replacement is the better option.
Diagnosis and fix for sticky resin dice
- Symptom: Dice feel tacky or leave residue on fingers after unboxing or storage.
- Likely cause: Residual mold release agent or plasticizer from manufacturing, not a defect.
- Corrective action: Wash dice in lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap. Gently rub with your fingers or a soft cloth. Rinse and pat dry with a lint-free towel. Do not soak for more than a few minutes. If dice are still sticky after this step, stop cleaning.
- Stop or choose another option: Do not use alcohol, acetone, or abrasive scrubbing—they can cloud or etch the resin surface. If the tackiness persists, the dice may have a manufacturing flaw. Consider replacing the set instead of risking permanent damage. For persistent stickiness, replacement is safer than aggressive cleaning.
