Quick answer
Use the MCMS DU-15 Cylinder Mold II to cast custom cylinder details for mecha model kits. This guide walks you through preparing, pouring, and demolding resin parts with consistent results.
Why use a dedicated mold for cylinder details
The MCMS DU-15 Cylinder Mold II gives you 132 pieces across three sizes (2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm), making it easy to add uniform mechanical detail without hand-scribing each one. Because the mold is designed for resin casting, you can reproduce identical parts quickly for multiple builds.
How to cast with the MCMS DU-15 Cylinder Mold II
- Prepare the mold: Clean the silicone mold with a soft brush and mild soapy water. Let it dry completely. Dust or grease will cause bubbles or incomplete fills. Skip this step and residue can ruin the surface of your cast parts.
- Mix your resin: Follow the resin manufacturer's ratio exactly. Stir slowly to avoid introducing air. A vacuum chamber helps remove bubbles, but a few minutes of rest after mixing also works. Bubbles trapped in the mold cavities create weak or misshapen cylinders.
- Pour the resin: Pour resin into the mold slowly, letting it flow into each cavity. Tap the mold gently on the workbench to release trapped air. Fill just above the cavity rim. Overfilling causes flash that is hard to trim from small parts.
- Cure and demold: Let the resin cure fully according to its specified time (usually 10–30 minutes for fast-cast resins). Peel the mold back carefully, starting from one edge. Remove parts with tweezers if needed. Demolding too early will deform the cylinder edges.
- Clean up the cast parts: Trim any flash with a sharp hobby knife. Sand the back of each piece flat if necessary. Test-fit on your model before gluing. A quick dry-fit saves you from gluing a part that needs further trimming.
