Quick Answer

Most Sage bottle leaks come from the spout lock being in the wrong position, a misaligned lid gasket, or overtightening the cap. Each cause has a simple fix you can do in seconds.

Two Sage Designs, One Common Issue

The Sage 16 oz. Bluey bottle uses a durable plastic body with a push-button release and flip-up lock. The Sage 19 oz. Insulated bottles (Lilo & Stitch and Spider-Man) add vacuum insulation and a stainless steel body but share the same lid mechanism. Both designs can leak if the spout lock isn't fully engaged or the lid isn't seated correctly.

The good news: these leaks are almost never a defect. They're usually user-adjustable. If you've tried all the steps below and the bottle still leaks, the lid gasket may be damaged or the bottle may have a manufacturing flaw—both covered under Zak's warranty.

Leak Diagnosis & Fix

  • Symptom: Water seeps from the spout area when the bottle is on its side: Likely cause: The flip-up lock is not engaged. The lock sits on top of the push-button. When it's flipped back, the button can be pressed accidentally. Flip the lock forward until it clicks. The button will no longer depress, and the spout stays sealed. Always lock the spout before tossing the bottle into a bag.
  • Symptom: Drips from the threads or cap rim when the bottle is upright: Likely cause: The lid is cross-threaded or the gasket is out of place. Unscrew the lid completely, check that the clear silicone gasket sits evenly in the groove, then screw the lid back on straight. Tighten until snug—do not overtighten, as that can deform the gasket. If the gasket is torn or stretched, replace it. Contact Zak customer service for a replacement part.
  • Symptom: Leak persists after checking lock and gasket: Likely cause: A damaged lid or bottle rim. Inspect the lid for cracks and the bottle rim for nicks. If you see damage, the bottle has reached the end of its service life. Stop using it and recycle or replace it. Consider upgrading to an insulated Sage bottle (19 oz.) if you need longer cold retention and a stainless steel body.
