Quick answer
Dragon Eclipse Mystling Academy – Peare vs Arboro is a fast-paced, standalone dueling game. Set up the arena, choose your Mystling, then take turns playing cards and moving your mini to reduce your opponent's health to zero.
What makes Mystling Academy different from other dueling games
Mystling Academy focuses on quick, tactical rounds rather than long resource-building phases. Each Mystling has a unique deck and miniature, so the feel of Peare vs Arboro changes dramatically depending on which side you pilot. The compact box means you can finish a match in under 20 minutes once you know the flow.
How to set up and play Dragon Eclipse Mystling Academy – Peare vs Arboro
- 1. Set up the arena: Unfold the game board and place it between both players. Each player chooses a Mystling (Peare or Arboro) and takes the corresponding miniature, deck, and health tracker. Place your miniature on the starting space indicated in the rules. Common mistake: Forgetting to place the health tracker at the correct starting value. Double-check the card or rule sheet for each Mystling's starting health.
- 2. Shuffle and draw your opening hand: Shuffle your Mystling's deck thoroughly. Each player draws a hand of 5 cards. If you are unhappy with your hand, you may mulligan once by shuffling your hand back into the deck and drawing 5 new cards. Take advantage of the one free mulligan if your opening hand has no low-cost cards or no movement options.
- 3. Determine the first player: Roll a die or use any random method to decide who goes first. The first player takes the first turn of the game.
- 4. Play a turn: On your turn, you may play one card from your hand by paying its energy cost (shown in the top-left corner). Then you may move your miniature up to the number of spaces indicated on the card or your Mystling's base movement stat. After resolving the card's effect, discard it. Your turn ends when you have no more actions or choose to pass. Common mistake: Trying to play multiple cards in one turn. Unless a card explicitly says otherwise, you are limited to one card per turn.
- 5. Attack and defend: When you play an attack card, compare its damage value to your opponent's current defense (if any). Subtract defense from damage, then reduce the opponent's health by the remaining amount. Some cards also grant temporary defense or special effects like stun or push. Remember that defense cards are discarded at the end of your opponent's turn, so timing matters. Don't waste a high-defense card when your opponent has no attacks ready.
- 6. Win the game: The game ends immediately when one Mystling's health reaches 0. The player whose Mystling still has health above 0 wins. If both Mystlings reach 0 health simultaneously (rare), the player who dealt the final blow wins.
